ABOUT
This project produces clean energy by way of hydropower. The project supports the construction of small hydropower plants (SHPs) located in the Júlio de Castilhos and Salto Jacuí municipalities, which are both in Rio Grande do Sul state in southern Brazil. One of the SHP’s has an installed power of 17.95 MW and a new reservoir which in its higher water level occupies an area of 0.83 km2. The other SHP has an installed power of 13.230 MW and a new reservoir which in its higher water level occupies an area of 0.66 km2. The project provides electric power to the National Interconnected System—SIN (Sistema Interconectado Nacional). This displaces the use of fossil fuels for energy, which reduces the amount of carbon and other GHG emissions, combating climate change while providing renewable sources of energy.
