ABOUT

Avoiding the conversion of these mosaic grasslands to agricultural use provides critical carbon sequestration in this unique project. The Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) is a highly unique landscape that was once one of the largest grassland-wetland complexes on earth. This landscape provides critical breeding habitat for 80% of the continent’s waterfowl populations. The grasslands have also long-supported herds of grazing animals, which for the last century have served as the economic foundation for local ranching families.
